Privacy Policy
Effective
This Privacy Policy explains how Verified Fishing Inc., operator of Kala (“Kala,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit verifiedonkala.com and join the early-access list (the “Site”).
Kala is a verification standard for fishing. This Site is a public introduction and an early-access waitlist — not the product itself. We try to collect as little as possible, and we say plainly what happens to what we do collect.
1. What we collect
The Site captures a deliberately small set of information:
- Your email address — when you submit it through the early-access form, the on-page quiz, or the footer signup.
- Early-access form fields — if you take the short quiz, the answers you choose (the species you fish for, how often you fish, why you fish, your platform, and a fishing memory prompt) and a derived persona label. These are optional; a footer-only signup sends none of them.
- Submission metadata — a timestamp, the source of the signup (for example “footer” or “quiz”), whether you opted in to updates, and a coarse hint derived from your IP address that helps us rate-limit abuse.
- Analytics and technical data — if and when analytics are enabled (see §3), standard usage signals such as pages viewed, referrer, device/browser type, and anonymous performance metrics.
We do not ask for your name, mailing address, phone number, government ID, location, or payment information on this Site. We do not run the in-app verification features here, so none of that data is collected.
2. The processors we share it with
When you submit the early-access form, your information is sent to the following service providers so we can record the lead, notify our team, and send you a welcome email. Each receives only what it needs:
| Processor | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Google Sheets (via a Google Apps Script) | Durable record of early-access signups. | Your email, quiz answers, persona, source, timestamp. |
| Slack | Internal team notification of a new signup. | Your email and quiz answers. |
| SendGrid | Sends the welcome / confirmation email. | Your email address. |
| listmonk (self-hosted newsletter) | Adds you to our early-access newsletter list. | Your email and persona attributes. |
| lockin (lockin.agfarms.dev) | A visitor-fingerprint service we use for abuse / fraud signals. | Your IP address and browser User-Agent at the time of signup, plus your email. |
In addition, two analytics tools may be used on the Site, and may receive technical/usage data described in §3:
- PostHog — product/usage analytics.
- Vercel Analytics — anonymous web performance metrics.
We do not sell your information for money. We never share it with advertising networks, and we do not run advertising trackers on this Site.
3. Analytics and tracking technologies
Analytics on this Site are currently off by default and only run if we explicitly enable them. When enabled, we operate them in a privacy-forward, cookieless mode wherever the tool supports it: we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or share the data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
If we later add cookie-based or cross-site advertising trackers, we will update this policy and add the consent controls that the law requires before turning them on.
4. How we use your information
- To add you to the early-access list and tell you when Kala opens.
- To send a welcome email and occasional updates you opted in to.
- To understand interest in Kala in aggregate and improve the Site.
- To prevent spam and abuse of the signup form.
5. Your privacy rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do any of the following with the information this Site holds about you:
- Access — get a copy of what we have (it is short: your email, signup metadata, and any quiz answers).
- Correct — fix anything inaccurate.
- Delete — remove your email and associated data from our records and processors.
- Opt out of email — every email includes an unsubscribe link, or reply “STOP” and we will remove you.
- Non-discrimination — exercising any of these rights will never get you treated differently.
To exercise any right, email hi@kala.fish. We will respond within 45 days.
6. California — Notice at Collection & Do Not Sell or Share
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, gives you specific rights. This section is also our notice at collection.
- What we collect: identifiers (your email address; an IP-derived hint) and internet/usage activity (analytics signals, if enabled). We do not collect sensitive personal information on this Site.
- Why: to operate the early-access waitlist, contact you, and prevent abuse. We retain it as described in §7.
- Do Not Sell or Share: we do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is therefore nothing to opt out of today. If that ever changes, we will provide a clear “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control before any such sharing begins.
- Your CCPA rights — to know, delete, correct, and non-discrimination — are exercised the same way as §5: email hi@kala.fish.
7. Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We honor the Global Privacy Control. If your browser or a browser extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of any sale or sharing of your personal information for that browser. Because this Site does not currently sell or share personal information for advertising, a GPC signal does not change what we do here today — but the signal will be respected if and when that ever changes.
8. Data retention
- Early-access email & signup data: kept while you are on the waitlist and until you ask us to delete it or unsubscribe.
- Abuse / rate-limit signals: short-lived; the IP-derived hint is used transiently for spam prevention.
- Analytics data (if enabled): retained per the analytics provider’s standard window and used only in aggregate.
When you ask us to delete your data, we remove it from our records and request deletion from the processors in §2.
9. Security
All traffic to the Site is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). We limit access to signup data to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if you find a vulnerability, please tell us at hi@kala.fish.
10. Children
This Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their email, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Site and the product evolve. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above. The current effective date is May 28, 2026.
